The Department of Music at the University of Mary Washington is pleased to host the Fifth Annual Electroacoustic Barn Dance, a three-day festival of electronic music and art, to be held October 1 – 3, 2015 on the campus of the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This years festival will feature flautist, Doug Gately.
The Department of Music functions as one component of the liberal arts institution. Cognizant of its mission, the department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in music with two tracks: 1) a traditional liberal arts curriculum and 2) a traditional liberal arts curriculum that allows students to obtain a licensure to teach music in the public schools. Additionally, the department provides a wide variety of elective courses to the entire student body. Some ensembles also offer performance opportunities for University as well as community musicians. The department also serves the community at large through its offerings of cultural events – lectures, workshops, and concerts. This liberal arts orientation defines the goal of the major program – to allow students to pursue an interest in music within the context of a broadly-based program of study. The Department of Music is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
